Jefferson had two older sisters. His earliest memory was the family moving when he was age three. He was put on a pillow and carried on horseback by a slave. His father died when TJ was in his early teens. His father was careful to see that his oldest son had a good education. Jefferson was a very good student and had read all his father's books at an early age.
