HOW WAS JEFFERSON'S SECOND TERM AS PRESIDENT DIFFERENT FROM THE FIRST?
> I have a very importamt question, Maybe you can help me.. > How was Jefferson's second term different from his first? Like most two-term presidents, Jefferson's second term was perhaps not as successful as his first. He did conclude a peace treaty with Tripoli, thus ending their depredations on U.S. shipping. The trial of Aaron Burr for treason ended in acquittal. There was the famous attack on the USS Chesapeake. The most important act was the embargo, which resulted in an economic downturn. Jefferson established the precedent, following Washington, of a president serving only two terms. This remained the practice up until Franklin Roosevelt, after which it was established by constitutional amendment. For more information, refer to the chronology in the back of the Library of America volume of Jefferson's writings. That book should be available in any library. Jefferson's second term was from 1805 to 1809.
