I am sorry, but I am unable to locate such a quotation in the writings of Thomas Jefferson. The writing is not, in my opinion, in the style of Jefferson, even making allowances for an imperfectly remembered wording. I have not read every word that Jefferson ever wrote, and it is possible, of course, that I am totally wrong. But to me, there are not sufficient logical connections between the three sentences. They have a disjointed quality that is, again in my opinion, very un-Jeffersonian. Also, the choice of words just does not sound like Jefferson. Those are just my opinions, however; they cannot be taken as in any way settling the question. I am sorry I am not able to be of more assistance to you on this.
