>I am enjoying your site containing quotations >from President Jefferson. Can you tell me how >the reference ME 15:307 is to be found? > >I assume Vol. 15, page 307, but what does >ME refer to? "ME" refers to the Memorial Edition, which is the 20 vol. set of Jefferson writings that was published by the Thomas Jefferson Memorial Association, Lipscomb and Bergh are the editors. It is available in most large public and university libraries. More information on that edition is included on my "sources" page on the website, Thomas Jefferson on Politic & Government. The best easily available source for a selection of the writings of Thomas Jefferson in their original form is: Thomas Jefferson Writings. Compiled by Merrill D. Peterson New York: The Library of America, 1984. It should be available in any good library. >The citations for many of the jefferson quotes refer to the source ME. What >is that? That is the Memorial Edition (Lipscomb and Bergh, eds.). That information is mentioned somewhere, but the fact that you had to ask suggests it is either not prominent enough, or not frequent enough. Thanks for asking. I'll try to make the information better available next updating of the files.
