The letter to Dupont of April 24, 1816, is in the Library of America volume of Jefferson's Writings (Peterson, ed.). That book is available in any public library (or should be). It is also available on line on page 487 of volume 14 of the Writings of Thomas Jefferson located at Writings of Jefferson, Vol. 14 That is the edition edited by Bergh. To locate it, put 487 in your Search/Find browser function.
