TIME OF DAY OF JEFFERSON'S DEATH
> I hope you can help me or show me to the right direction. I have a few > questions and have spent hours searchng and have been unable to locate my > answers. > > What hour of day did Thomas Jefferson die? I understand that he died close > to the hour the Declartation of Independence was signed. According to Willard Sterne Randall, "Thomas Jefferson: A Life" "At 12:50 P.M., July 4, 1826, he stopped breathing and Dr. Dunglison pronounced him dead." p. 594. This book also includes other information on his death that will probably answer your other questions. You might also check Dumas Malone's biography of Jefferson. I would suggest that you look at the various biographies of Thomas Jefferson in your public library. They will contain most of the answers you are seeking. The Declaration of Independence was approved and, I believe, signed on July 4, but then it was engrossed by a printer and that copy was signed by all members at a much later date.
