JEFFERSON'S VIEWS ON A COMET FALLING IN CONNECTICUT
>I am trying to locate a quotation attributed to Jefferson re: his disbelief >that a comet had fallen to the earth in the state of Connecticut. I have read >it somewhere, but who knows where (need quotation and reference). Any help >would be appreciated. I'm afraid I will not be of much help. The only mention of a comet in Jefferson's writings that I am aware of is in his letter to H. A. S. Dearborn, of November 15, 1811 (Lipscomb & Bergh edition, Vol. 13, pg. 110), in which he mentions a Mr. Bowditch's observations on a comet. But there is no mention in that letter of this comet falling to earth in Connecticut. Sorry, but that's all that I have on comets. Best wishes, Eyler Coates
